I sometimes do shoots for AirBnB, which is a company that facilitates the rental of either a room in your house, or sometimes the whole house depending on what you sign up for. Here are a couple of shots from a little place that I shot for the owner to post.

I was called up by Qiang, to come over to his home to shoot some photos for his family. He had a baby who was now 100days old, and wanted some pictures done of him. We also did some family photos of the 4 of them. I was pleased with how the images turned out, and so was Qiang.

I was at the best comic store in town this past weekend to document the mayhem that is FCBD, or free comic book day. As you can see, this event was well attended, and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came. I was only there in the morning, and missed some of the other awesomeness that happened later in the day, such as the Sunday Kids playing some of their tunes in a live jam. But here is some of what I can show you.

Well the Battle of Alberta was on again, as the ladies of E-ville suited up against a couple of travel teams from Southern Alberta. The double header bout pit the Berzerkhers against the Kill Jills, and the Los Pistolitas took on Damn-sels in Distress. The Kill Jills took the first jam, and I thought we might be in trouble, until the second jam, when Peaches blazed the track, lapping the pack 4 times to secure a lead that they never lost afterward. The fate of the Damn-sels was even more decisive, and the LP’s nearly shut them out completely. I am sure besides the bruises and bumps, these two teams will be taking home some valuable experience, and will emerge stronger and better for it. The same thing happened to the E-ville Dead travel team on many occasions in their beginning. I saw a lot of potential in these teams, and really enjoyed their spirit and the camaraderie that is inherent to the sport. Hope to see these teams again. More photos from the bouts can be seen here.

Have you ever thought about getting new windows or doors? Who hasn’t right? They always look spectacular on the fancy show homes, but would it have the same effect on a less glamorous home? The answer is yes. I recently shot a modest house for some before and after, here is just one example of how much difference just a new door can make.

I was at the university the other day to take some photos of some labs where they are doing research toward carbon sequestering for Carbon Management Canada. The labs were not exactly what I was expecting, and I had to do some quick thinking and quick lighting to make some images that were worthy of the website they would be going on. The labs were rather sparse, and there was the signs of actual work being done everywhere, (in other words quite cluttered, not good for photos) so I had to jazz up the lighting for the sake of visual interest, and stage and frame shots in ways to minimize the mess. Overall I was quite pleased with what I ended up with.

Google has a cute Easter egg game today if you type in a search for Zerg rush. Try it.

When still photographers shoot on the set, often they take most images during the rehearsal of the scene, where they don’t have to worry about the video camera, and the sound. However, when equipped with a sound reducing box, a photographer can shoot during the actual filing as well. A sound proof box can run you near $1000, or, should you be the handy type (and what photographer isn’t) you can make one like the great tutorial found here sound blimp

I had the very lovely Sherry, from Serendipity Talent, in for some headshots. We discussed what she wanted from her photos, and what types of roles she is pursuing. Sherry told me that she needed something to emphasize the eyes, and that she typically casts as an athletic type. So with those things in mind, I set up a couple of schemes to make sure we got the results she was looking for.
